This Premier Cru derives its name from an ancient species of oak that vanished several centuries ago. Showcasing the magnificence of Pinot Noir with its chalky marl terroir, this full-bodied wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels. It improves with time and can be stored for many years. It exudes aromas of red berries, offering a full-bodied and racy profile.

The 2021 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru is straightlaced on the nose, without quite the verve of the Champans at the moment. The palate is defined by red plum and cranberry fruit, fine structure, building in weight towards a zesty finish. This will be thoroughly enjoyable in its youth.
