The 2019 Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru has a distracting and incongruous cough candy element on the nose that obscures the terroir profile and sense of Pinoté. The palate is medium-bodied, with black cherry compote, licorice and cassis. There is fine structure here, but it is slightly too sweet toward the finish. This does not correlate to the showing in barrel, and I will reserve judgement for now. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
