The 2016 Beauregard is bold and fruity, but it also remains a bit rough around the edges. Dark fruit, chocolate, spice and new French oak all develop in an easygoing Pomerol to drink now and over the next few years. Beauregard is pleasant, but is also rather anonymous. It will be interesting if proprietors Daniel and Florence Cathiard and their team at Smith Haut-Lafitte can coax more personality out of this site in coming vintages. Tasted two times.
